February is "I Love to Read" month!

It's "I Love to Read Month" and Athlone students have been enjoying all the amazing guest readers who have come to our school to read to classes.

Lloyd the Intern from Virgin 103, kicked-off "I Love to Read Month" by reading to the entire school in the gym. MLA Sharon Blady read to Room 10 as did Drew Willy, quarterback for the Blue Bombers football team.

Students have learned about the importance of reading from these special guests, their reading preferences, and a bit about their jobs.

It's an exciting month with more yet to come!

The Great Kindness Challenge

Students enjoyed taking part in the The Great Kindness Challenge last week. In addition to dressing-up in sports attire and rocker gear, students were encouraged to perform acts kindness to build a culture of kindness at Athlone School.

Being kind is something we frequently talk about in Room 10, and it is so heartwarming to see students treating one another with consideration and respect, and without expecting acknowledgement or a reward for their good deeds. Our class motto comes from the novel, Wonder, we are currently reading:

"When given the choice between
being right or being kind, choose kind."

Room 10: Kindness ROCKS!!!
